Red Acre is a wonderful, sweet-flavored variety for the home garden! So much more flavorful than store bought! They produce dense, well-filled, deep purple, small round heads on compact plants making them ideal for smaller garden spaces. Great for colorful slaws, salads, and cooking. They are resistant to splitting and they are one of the best for winter storage when planted in late summer for fall harvest. Stored well in the refrigerator or root cellar. Special Instructions: Heirloom cabbage will do well in heavy clay soil, although it prefers a rich heavy loam. It loves to be planted in areas where large amounts of composted manure has been worked into the soil bed. Remember not to plant cabbage seed in the same place year to year. It prefers a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.5 for optimum growth.
