Green Globe

Known as the “King of Artichokes”, this delicious and tender variety is the one you are most likely to find in the grocery store or served to you at a restaurant. It is grown as a perennial in mild areas and as an annual in areas where ground freezes (may survive winter in marginal areas if provided with a thick layer of mulch).

Harvest the flower heads when they are young, before bracts open. Cut the top one first, then the secondary ones as they mature. The foliage is very attractive, even after harvest which makes it a great edition to any spot in your garden.

Special Instructions: Artichoke seeds require a ‘cold period’ in order to germinate — wrap them in a damp towel and store in the refrigerator for two weeks before sowing. Once chilled, plant seeds 1/4″ deep in individual pots 6-8 weeks before last expected frost. Seedlings emerge in 14-21 days.
